SR: Olga, how did it happen that a talented graduate of Bauman Moscow State Technical University, an advanced (let"s not be afraid of this word) industrial designer decided to take up such an unusual business as designing bowls, beds and scratching posts?
OSh: Until I got a black-as-coal kitten, of course, I had no intention of designing products for animals. I was interested in furniture design, interior design, gadgets, and technical devices for my career. However, the arrival of a kitten in the home made me consider the problem of a person and their pet coexisting in the modern era.
SR: How did you respond to this query?
Osh: incredibly easy. I apologize to readers of Catpeople, but I do not make "products for cats" or for dogs.

Osh: The Pettel brand’s concept is to make interior décor for contemporary homes that include dogs or cats. We don’t place the animal in the center of the human corner in this instance; instead, it is given a secondary role, has limitations placed on it, and is given at least what is necessary (some are limited to a pair of bowls and a tray). However, when we disregard the needs of the pet, the interior usually suffers greatly (just picture all these nooks, the stack of cat shelves, the kitchen’s gender being lined with bowls, etc.D.).
We have found a solution to the harmonious coexistence of humans and animals with our design. This means that the essential items for a cat or dog should, at the very least, not clash with the style of the furniture in the house; better yet, (and this is what we strive for) – enhance and enhance it. They must also serve their intended purpose, be easy to maintain, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable for the animal.
SR: That sounds lovely. And how is this actually put into effect?
OSh: Using a scratching post as an example, let’s examine it from the perspective of the cat. It’s a fact that cats enjoy cardboard. Cats are fond of carpet, another fact. Let’s now examine a scratching post from the perspective of someone who values a chic interior. A common scratching post covered in carpet (a "traditional" material for play complexes) or tied with a rope (the popular scratching post) irks the sense of beauty that every person who is not indifferent to design feels and does not fit into any designer interior. And among cat lovers, these immensely elegant and graceful creatures have a large number of such individuals.
SR: Well, but the norm for contemporary "claw-making" is actually a carpet, carpet, or sisal rope.
OSh: Carpet, rug, or rope are not the issue… While their color and texture are highly significant, these materials by themselves do not constitute a design statement for a scratching post. It all comes down to the product’s overall composition and how its design interacts with the surrounding furniture and interior elements. Additionally, it’s critical that the scratching post’s design not exactly mimic the furnishings or interior design; we vehemently oppose scratching posts that resemble trees, palm trees, bedside tables, etc. A straight analogy is frequently startling and implausible.
Scratching post SHEEPY, PETTEL
When my Nisa was a small and very clawed kitten, she loved to clasp the soft armrest of the sofa with her front paws and furiously beat it with her hind paws. This is how the idea of the SHEEPY scratching post for active young cats came about. This is a stylish item on which the little prankster can vent all his brutal temperament: clasp and beat with his paws, climb under and on it, hide as if behind an obstacle during games with a person and, of course, sharpen his claws. People will also like it: our customers tell us how cozy it is – sitting in a chair with a book, putting your feet on the SHEEPY scratching post)) In addition, SHEEPY is often purchased as a housewarming gift – this is really an excellent gift for cat-loving friends in a new interior.
"Sheepy" is "sheep" in English, right? It’s true that the scratching post resembles a sheep with legs. Give us more details about it!
OSH: The carpet is the most significant feature of SHEEPY. Its uncommon weave of base threads and somewhat thick pile ensure exceptional claw grip. The cat’s damage is perfectly hidden by the pile, and the scratching post will look brand-new for an extended period of time. The side decorative panels made of solid swamp ash conceal the carpet’s fastenings. Birch plywood, which is known for its lovely light and dark stripes, is used to make the legs.

"Solid swamp ash" sounds like a fascinating concept.
OSH: PETTEL’s preferred material is swamp ash. Its strikingly large, striking pattern and the unusual qualities of wood—ash is dry and hard—left a lasting impression on us. Finishing: Wood is rubbed with natural oils and waxes from Italy to form a cohesive whole. They provide the right tone and protect the wood even when it is being cleaned with water, all while preserving its original texture. By the way, all PETTEL products are manually assembled and glued; we employ traditional furniture technologies in our work.
DOUBLE F bowl, PETTEL
SR: We examined the homes and worked out the scratching post; everything is incredibly chic, contemporary, and lovely. And with bowls, what novel idea can you come up with?
OSH: Bowls occupy a special place in our assortment. First of all, because this is the most popular item for any cat (or dog) owner. In bowls, functionality is more important than anywhere else – it should be convenient for the pet to eat from them, they should be stable, not slip on the floor, and besides, they have to be washed regularly. But design is no less important: you must agree, we would often prefer to hide the feeding place from the eyes of guests. Even in interior design magazines, where stylish interior projects with tailed residents are often found, you will not see bowls in the kitchen and cat litter boxes.
We have considered everything. Single and double bowls are available. For instance, the Scandinavian-style Double F double bowl has sides to keep dry food from spilling on the floor and a simple-to-remove and clean acrylic panel. A unique water-repellent oil has been applied to the wood, and anti-slip pads are on the legs.

SR: Are the single bowls non-slip as well?
OSH: Obviously! It should be noted that certain PETTEL single bowl models, like the ENKEL bowls, are also fairly heavy. For medium-sized dogs (we haven’t yet covered large dog products), weight and non-slip pads are crucial because a light bowl frequently "moves" from under the muzzle when they’re eating. ENKEL come in three finishing options (natural, wenge, and white) and five sizes (diameter 10 – 24 cm, height 6 – 25 cm).
Additionally, TORRE bowls with a 10 or 12 cm diameter are great options for cats. Experience has shown that it’s not always as clear-cut to choose a cat bowl size as it might seem. To curb portion size and avoid overfeeding the whiskered one, plump British cats receive small ten-centimeter bowls for water, while sphinxes typically receive very large ones.
A few words about the TORRE bowls’ design: it’s simple but intriguing all at once. The relationship between Scandinavian design and art deco. Cleaning the bowls with a damp cloth on a regular basis will keep your TORRE looking like new. Furthermore, the ash wood used to make TORRE will develop a gorgeous patina and noble wear in a few years.

SR: Aside from houses, bowls, and scratching posts, what else do you have in stock?
OSH: Beds almost got overlooked! There are many different kinds of beds in the PETTEL catalog, including ones for stylish loft interiors. Additionally, we have several intriguing projects in the works, including interior complexes, vertical scratching posts, beds for two cats, lovely climbing shelves, a summer collection for a country home, and much more.
SR: I appreciate that you spared me from having to enquire about your imaginative plans.
OSH: Could you elaborate a little bit on dogs for me?
SR: Alright, why not?
OSH: Although the PETTEL brand was founded primarily on the production of high-end items for cats, we currently manufacture small and medium-sized dog products as well. Apart from bowls, houses, and beds, we also provide cabinets and collar hangers for dogs’ clothing.
