These puppies are tiny, cute, and totally dependent on their mother during the first few weeks of their lives. Their personalities begin to show as they get older, and you’ll notice that they become more independent, curious, and playful.

The stages of an American Akita puppy’s development are covered in this article, from the early cuddling days to their alert and active behavior as they approach their first birthday. We’ll exchange pictures along the route to commemorate every unique occasion.

Age Development
0-2 weeks Puppies are blind and deaf, relying on their mother for warmth and nutrition.
2-4 weeks Eyes open, puppies start to hear, and their first teeth begin to appear.
4-6 weeks Puppies become more active, start walking, and interact with littermates.
6-8 weeks Weaning starts, puppies explore their surroundings and develop basic social skills.
8-12 weeks Puppies are ready for their new homes, learning house training and simple commands.
3-6 months Growth is rapid, and puppies develop stronger muscles and coordination.
6-12 months Almost full-grown, American Akitas continue to develop mentally and physically, reaching adolescence.

Newborns

Akita babies cannot see or hear. Their ears are not erect, and they do not yet have any teeth. The muscles must gradually gain strength in order to "lift" the auricles.

The males have membranous pads on their paws, which are quite strong and powerful (both Japanese and American Akitas are excellent swimmers). The tail is still straight, but it will eventually twist into a doughnut shape. The weight of newborn puppies ranges from 400 to 600 g on average; the weight is determined by the litter size and the traits of the parents.

Puppies of the American Akita breed are renowned for their quick development and distinct developmental phases from birth to one year of age. They grow during this time from helpless, little babies into robust, self-assured, and devoted friends. Their eyes opening, learning to walk, interacting with people, and developing into their distinctive thick coat and robust build are all significant turning points in their life. Observing their growth through pictures reveals how their personalities and physical characteristics develop, providing information about the care and attention they require at each stage.

1 month

The puppy gradually acclimates to the outside world during the first ten days: breathing, heartbeat, digestion, and thermoregulation all "work." The infant responds to temperature changes and scents.

A month-old puppy doubles in size in the first week, growing into a shiny, barrel-shaped creature. The young Akita opens its eyes, starts to hear, and takes its first steps on days 10 and 14. The milk teeth are cut at this point.

Puppies start to crawl out of their "nest" to investigate their surroundings, go potty, and play. Liquid and soft food are gradually introduced for independent feeding by the owner. It is important for a little Akita to eat well in order to grow up to be a big and healthy dog: the portion rate is selected based on weight and height.

The puppy moves into a new home after being fully weaned from his mother. The dog’s owner gradually introduces a regular diet to it. The animal is already used to following a rigid feeding schedule, which lasts 15 to 20 minutes each meal. Even if the dog hasn’t consumed all of the food, the bowl is taken away.

As the puppies start to take on personalities, it’s time to begin training the pet’s basic commands and begin raising it. The dog will be more receptive to training if it is rewarded for even the smallest accomplishments.

The Akita is developing physically very quickly; it grows right before our eyes. Gradually, the ears begin to straighten – a feature of the breed.

4-5 months

The owner does not set aside time for lengthy walks and runs or lessons on the dog playground in order for the dog to reach its maximum potential. At this point, the animal starts to develop a personality and starts to view training as a game. Akita is still a happy puppy rather than a moody teenager.

The dog’s ears have fully straightened by four to five months, and the process of replacing milk teeth with permanent ones has started. The feeding schedule gets more stringent: the animal is fed fewer times a day and is always given time to digest after eating to prevent major gastrointestinal tract issues.

Akita is only beginning to enter adolescence, but she already has a mature appearance—her puppy clumsiness and roundness have vanished. The development of behavioral traits is also reaching a logical conclusion; in the future, it will be challenging to make up for mistakes made in the dog’s early care.
