Sheba cat food

The well-known cat food brand Sheba ("Sheba") is made by OOO "Mars." This food is cheap (a bag costs 25–30 rubles), so you can find it in almost any store that sells pet food.

The "Mars" company manufactures a variety of well-known goods, such as pet food.

In 1911, the business "Mars" was established in Washington State. Chocolate bars were the company’s original brand. As the new product "took root" in the global market, the business expanded to become a massive conglomerate. Currently, "Mars" manufactures food items (Uncle Ben’s, etc. d.), confections (Snickers, Twix, M&M’s, etc. d.), and pet food (Pedigree, Chappi, Royal Canin, etc. d.). Since 1991, these goods have been produced in Russia. Large cities (Samara, Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, etc. d.) have representative offices.

Product class

Sheba food is categorized as a premium product by the manufacturer. However, the majority of veterinarians and cat owners disagree with this statement, which is frequently a marketing gimmick. Feeds are generally categorized into classes according to a number of factors, including composition, cost, and advertising. Since the feed’s composition as stated on the package is constant, issues with its analysis frequently occur.

For instance, it is recommended to have 11 g of protein for every 100 g of product (11% turns out). This is insufficient to make the food gourmet. However, this is a good amount when compared to economy class feeds (8% protein is found in Whiskas, Kitekat, etc.). Although Sheba feed’s composition lists no artificial colors or preservatives, some consumers don’t think the feed is truly free of them.

"Sheba" is twice as expensive as standard economy class feeds but less expensive than ultra premium feeds. For instance, Sheba costs 28 rubles, while a Kitekata pouch costs 13–15 rubles. Sheba is promoted equally frequently as its low-cost "brothers." However, some cat owners think that this kind of aggressive advertising is a wise investment rather than a means of "imposing" a subpar product. The food will sell faster and produce more in greater quantities the more people know about it.

"Resistance is futile" is the slogan of one of Sheba’s advertising campaigns, but statements of this nature aren’t usually connected to a lot of meat.

It’s thought that the most expensive, premium cat food isn’t advertised at all. Yes, for instance, I only recently became aware of some holistic products, even though our city, Penza, has been selling them for a number of years (though only upon request). Perhaps I would want to locate/order the most expensive food if I saw an advertisement for it on TV.

Advantages and disadvantages of Sheba food

Sheba has the following benefits, among others:

  • the food does not contain soy or cereals;
  • produce food with a wide range of flavors;
  • you can buy such a product in any supermarket;
  • low price.

However, there are a few drawbacks as well:

  • according to most veterinarians, "Sheba" is not a complete diet (although the packaging indicates the opposite);
  • the composition is not indicated in detail (perhaps some undesirable components are simply not indicated);
  • specialized lines and variations of dry food are not produced.

In the past, when I had very little experience with cat ownership, I made an effort to get in touch with a veterinarian for every query. Subsequently, I started observing that veterinarians themselves are not always familiar with the features of the product composition they suggest. These days, I only seek advice on nutrition matters when I am unable to locate the information I need online.

"Sheba" contains between 4 and 14% meat ingredients, but it’s unclear exactly what these ingredients—fish heads, liver, feathers from birds, or filet—really are.

Sheba cat food provides a selection of premium wet food options that are made to both satisfy cats’ taste buds and meet their nutritional needs. Sheba offers pet owners a high-end choice for providing their cats with a wholesome and delectable meal because it is made with real meat and contains no artificial flavors. Sheba is renowned for its versatility and capacity to satisfy even the most finicky eaters, whether it is used for regular meals or as a special treat.

Range and features of feeds

Sheba wet food is available in four series:

  • "Pleasure";
  • "Delicatesso";
  • "Naturalle";
  • "Mini";
  • "Appetito".

Their flavors, compositions, and packaging designs vary amongst them all.

"Sheba Pleasure"

Food marketed as "Sheba Pleasure" is made with two flavors:

  • chicken with turkey or rabbit;
  • tuna with salmon;
  • beef with rabbit or lamb;
  • chicken with duck;
  • veal with tongue;
  • trout with shrimp.

These are the standard pressed meat pieces in a thin sauce. Packaging: 50- or 85-gram pouches and 85-gram jars. The price of an 85 g food bag is 28-30 rubles.

Composition using the example of "Sheba Pleasure" with chicken and turkey flavor Nutritional value per 100 g Energy value per 100 g
Ingredients:
  • meat and offal (chicken at least 20%, turkey – 5%);
  • taurine;
  • vitamins;
  • mineral substances;
  • does not contain soy, artificial colors or preservatives.
  • proteins – 11%;
  • fat – 3%;
  • ash – 2%;
  • fiber – 0.3%;
  • vitamin A – not less than 90 IU;
  • vitamin E – not less than 1 IU;
  • moisture — 82 g.

The food needs to be warmed to room temperature before being fed to the animal. Food in pouches should be kept between 4°C and 35°C with a maximum relative humidity of 75%. Meat and byproducts are a part of the ingredients in canned rabbit and beef food (beef makes up at least 20%, rabbits make up 5%). Meat and by-products (trout at least 20%, shrimp – 5%) are components of food that is served with shrimp and trout. The picture on the packaging matches other foods in this series, but the color of the bag varies depending on the flavor option.

"Sheba Delicatesso"

"Sheba Delicatesso" comes in pate and fricasse varieties. There are various flavor selections:

  • rabbit with duck and vegetables;
  • turkey with Bechamel sauce;
  • salmon;
  • poultry;
  • veal with chicken;
  • beef.

Cut into pieces, the first option consists of vegetables and meat products. Pate is a type of pate that is cut into pieces rather than a single, uniform mass. It is made in foil-covered polymer jars (the volume of pouches). Food from the "Delicatesso" line costs 35 rubles a jar, which is more than that of the "Pleasure" line.

Table: composition of Sheba Delicatesso food

Composition using the example of "Sheba Delicatesso" with the taste of rabbit, duck and vegetables Nutritional value per 100 g Energy value per 100 g
Ingredients:
  • meat and offal (including rabbit – at least 4%, duck – at least 4%);
  • vegetables (at least 4%);
  • cereals;
  • vitamins;
  • minerals.
  • proteins — 8.5 g;
  • fat — 5.5 g;
  • ash — 1.8 g;
  • fiber — 0.3 g;
  • moisture — 82 g.

The fricassee package shows a beautiful dish with colorful vegetables and clearly defined pieces of meat, but in reality the mass is more homogeneous Real béchamel sauce is made from milk, cream and flour, so it cannot be in cat food, outwardly "Delikatesso-béchamel" is pieces of meat in a whitish sauce The composition of salmon "Delikatesso" indicates the smallest amount of animal protein – meat and offal, fish and fish offal (including salmon – at least 4%) An adult cat weighing 4 kg requires 3 packages of "Sheba Delikatesso" per day, since 1 can is 1 serving Beef pate from "Sheba Delikatesso" has the highest protein content in the entire series – 10.5 g per 100 g of food

"Sheba Naturel"

A tiny portion called "Sheba Naturel" combines two flavors. Taste selections:

  • sea fish;
  • chicken with turkey or duck;
  • beef with lamb.

This product is described by the manufacturer as whole pieces of fish or meat in a delicate sauce. It has been observed by some cat owners that the contents do not exactly match the picture on the package. packaged in 80 g portions. One serving costs, on average, 28 rubles.

I occasionally purchase smaller cat food packages. Simply put, I believe that if a brand produces goods in the same price range, the pack volume could be smaller even if there is more meat inside (manufacturers might not be able to make a large package with a lot of meat in it).

Table: composition of Sheba Naturalle food

Composition using the example of "Sheba Natural" with the taste of ocean fish Nutritional value per 100 g Energy value per 100 g
Ingredients:
  • fish and fish offal (including Navaga – 14%, tuna – 4%);
  • animal products;
  • meat and offal;
  • taurine;
  • vitamins;
  • minerals.
  • proteins – 6.0 g;
  • fats – 2.0 g;
  • ash – 1.0 g;
  • fiber – 0.3 g;
  • moisture – 87 g;
  • vitamin A – at least 90 IU;
  • vitamin E — not less than 1.0 mg.

Examine the ingredients carefully when selecting cat food. Not only should every component be listed with its precise percentage content, but it’s also crucial to indicate where each one belongs in the list of ingredients. For instance, meat and offal rank third in "Naturel" with fish flavor, while products derived from animals (such as industrial waste in the form of feathers, hooves, etc.) rank second. This indicates that fish (14%) makes up the largest portion here, followed by animal protein (second and third) at less than 14%, and minerals and taurine in trace amounts.

The majority of cats are more voracious eaters of fish feed than meat because the smell of fish is completely destroyed by heat treatment. Sheba Naturalle feed containing chicken and turkey has an energy value of 55 kcal per 100 g of the chicken-abs and chicken-chicken products. Meat and offal (at least 4% beef, 2% lamb) are included in Sheba Naturalle with beef and lamb.

"Sheba Mini"

A traditional moist food in tiny packaging is called "Sheba Mini." 50 g is the volume of 1 serving. There are four available flavors: beef, duck, salmon, and chicken. This is "Sheba’s" most affordable option; a bag typically costs 18 rubles.

Table: composition of Sheba Mini food

Composition using the example of "Sheba Mini" with chicken flavor Nutritional value per 100 g Energy value per 100 g
Ingredients:
  • meat and by-products (including chicken – at least 4%);
  • cereals;
  • vitamins and minerals;
  • does not contain artificial preservatives, flavors and flavor enhancers.
  • proteins – 8 g;
  • fat – 4.5 g;
  • ash – 1.8 g;
  • fiber – 0.3 g;
  • humidity — 83 g.

Each day, a 4 kg adult cat needs 5 bags of Sheba Mini food. Fish and fish byproducts, including salmon (at least 4%), are included in "Sheba" salmon. A 100 g serving of Sheba Mini duck flavor food has a minimum of 8% protein. The energy value of Sheba Mini foods with beef and chicken flavors is 40 kcal.

"Sheba Appetito"

"Sheba Appetito" is a dish consisting of two kinds of meat mixed with jelly. Variations in taste:

  • chicken with turkey;
  • beef with rabbit;
  • veal with tongue;
  • tuna and salmon.

The average cost per serving is 28 rubles, and they come in bags weighing 85 g.

Cats seem to enjoy this food line the most, according to some cat owners. This product’s jelly does not melt when heated, in contrast to the majority of other wet foods. Moreover, Appetito contains the most protein.

Table: composition of Sheba Appetito food

Composition using the example of Sheba Appetito with chicken and turkey flavor Nutritional value per 100 g Energy value per 100 g
Ingredients:
  • meat and offal (chicken – 20%, turkey – 5%);
  • taurine;
  • vitamins and minerals;
  • does not contain soy, artificial colors or preservatives.
  • proteins – 11.0 g;
  • fat – 3 g;
  • ash – 2 g;
  • fiber – 3 g;
  • vitamin A – at least 90 IU;
  • vitamin E — not less than 1 IU;
  • moisture – 82 g.

Sheba Appetito packets with chicken and turkey should be consumed by an adult cat three times a day; pregnant and nursing cats require four to five packets. Nine grams of protein are present in 100 grams of Sheba Appetito with beef and rabbit. Sheba Appetito’s nutritional value is identical when it comes to veal/tongue and beef/rabbit. Foods from the Sheba Appetito line are the rarest ones to find on store shelves.

Cat treats

There are no cat-specific treats available under the Sheba brand. Sheba Classic is a treat that some cat owners purchase. This is an 80 g serving of high-calorie food in unique polymer jars. Up to 40 g of this product are required daily for every kg of body weight in an adult cat.

Sheba Classic comes in the following flavor options:

  • sautéed chicken breasts;
  • assorted chicken with duck;
  • tuna cocktail with selected shrimps;
  • juicy tuna in a delicate sauce;
  • tagliata of chicken and tender beef.

Such food cans start at 85 rubles, but the manufacturer recommends a certain composition. For instance, 30% chicken meat is listed in "Chicken Breast Honeycomb," and up to 45% fish fillet (even though tuna fillet is only 4%), according to canned food "Juicy Tuna."

A 100 g serving of the Classic series food has up to 13% protein.

Compared to other food products from this manufacturer, "Sheba Classic" is less frequently found in stores, and when it does, it is promptly disassembled.

Medicinal food

It is advised to only give Sheba’s products to healthy cats, as the manufacturer does not produce any veterinary lines.

I know of a veterinarian who says that cats with low appetites can easily be fed canned food like Sheba. In fact, I’ve found that when my cats are feeling down, the sight of tasty bits in sauce or jelly instantly makes them want to consume the entire thing. These products also have a lot more moisture in them than dry ones.

What to replace Sheba food with

If Sheba food isn’t sold in stores or is out of your price range, you can substitute it with food from other classes:

  • premium (Royal Canin, Gourmet);
  • super premium (Leonardo, Brit Care);
  • holistic (Moonlight).

In Russia, Royal Canin is the most widely used premium cat food. Gourmet wet cat food is made by Nestle Purina Petcare in France and Russia. Leonardo Food’s maker bills their product as comprehensive nourishment. Brit food’s manufacturer asserts that only natural, hypoallergenic, and readily digestible ingredients are used in its products. Only a specialized store sells Moonlight food, which is typically brought to order.

Table: characteristics of food to replace

Class Product name Animal protein in the composition Undesirable components Age Medicinal series Price
Premium Royal Canin Up to 12% Yeast There are options for kittens, adult and elderly cats There are preventive feeds for cats of different ages, breeds and with physiological characteristics From 54 rubles for 85 g

Brit Care Up to 12% Modified starch There are canned food for adult cats and kittens From 77 rubles for 85 g

Pet owners who wish to provide their cats with a premium meal frequently opt to feed their cats sheba cat food. Even the fussiest eaters will find it appealing because it is well-known for using real meat and natural ingredients. Sheba offers a diverse range of flavors and textures to accommodate various feline preferences and dietary requirements.

Sheba cat food’s handy portioned servings, which aid in feeding management and cut down on food waste, are another important feature. This helps to maintain a balanced diet and makes it simple to make sure your cat always gets fresh meals.

All things considered, Sheba cat food is a dependable choice for cat owners who want convenience and quality. Its thoughtfully designed recipes take into account your preference for portion control and ease of use, all while providing cats with delicious, nourishing meals.
