Selecting the proper food is crucial for maintaining the health and happiness of our feline companions. Pet owners who wish to give their cats high-quality nutrition are increasingly choosing to feed their cats monge cat food. Monge uses a variety of formulas designed to meet your cat’s specific needs in order to promote overall health.

With a focus on premium ingredients, Monge makes sure that every meal is nutrient-dense for your cat. Every cat can find something they like, from meat-heavy recipes to those suitable for those with sensitive stomachs. This company is dedicated to supporting cats’ growth and well-being throughout their lives by providing a balanced diet.

This post will discuss the advantages of Monge cat food, its different product lines, and what makes it unique from competing products. Knowing your options will help you choose the best option for your furry friend, whether you’re an experienced feline caregiver or a novice.

General information about the manufacturer of Monge feed

The Italian factory C. S.P.a. of Monge & Corporation produces both wet and dry feed referred to as "Monge." There is more faith in these diets because they are imported. Outside the CIS, there are entirely different regulations governing pet products, frequent quality inspections, and bans on the use of numerous potentially harmful additives. Monge feeds are technically categorized as super-premium, but in practice, they are more in line with the premium range. Additionally, the business manufactures pet supplies under the Simba, Gemon, LeChat, and Moustache brands.

Each and every Monge feed package has the logo.

Detailed characteristics of Monge feeds

The company lists a high meat content, adherence to European quality standards, the lack of artificial additives in the compositions, and the availability of unique recipes for animals with special needs as some of its products’ key advantages. Animal-derived ingredients, which are a combination of fresh and dehydrated raw materials, are listed first in the ingredient list of all feeds. Since water evaporates from the latter, its share eventually drops by four or five times; however, fresh raw materials are sent straight from farms to the conveyor without having to be stored for an extended period of time. This ensures that the highest possible concentration of beneficial compounds is maintained and that no third-party preservatives are present.

Although canned men have a superior composition, they are very costly; if you only want to give the cat wet meals, you will need to spend between 300 and 600 r. every day.

The company provides a large assortment of both wet and dry feed. The selection includes veterinary and preventive series in addition to daily items. Additionally, there are pastes in the latter, which is a very effective remedy because wet food is preferable to dry food for many animal diseases. It also supplies moisture to the pet’s body and is less likely to cause harm or irritation to the mucous membranes.

The name of the series or individual feed Type Peculiarities
Monge Cat Natural Wet (canned food) Cat Natural is a series of canned food, which traditionally includes several types of meat components, sometimes plant additives. The food consists almost entirely of ingredients of animal origin. All varieties contain either seafood or tuna with salmon. Canned food can only be used as a supplementary food. The advantages include a completely natural composition, high content of animal protein and improved condition of the coat and skin of animals due to the presence of fish, which contains vitamins A and E, as well as unsaturated fatty acids.
Monge Monoprotein Wet (canned food) The line consists of 5 varieties of canned food. Among the flavors are rabbit, turkey and chicken. 3 types of canned food contain only one type of meat, in 2 varieties they additionally add a little carrot or peas. This is a complete food, so it can be used as a basis for the menu, but it is better to combine it with granules. Feeding softened products can provoke digestive disorders and inflammation of the paraanal glands. On the other hand, Monge canned food has a natural texture: pieces and fibers of meat. This reduces the negative consequences, but in any case, you need to monitor the well-being of the animal.
Monge Superpremium Kitten Dry The food is recommended for kittens and pregnant or nursing cats. Compared to other products of the classic line, it contains more fat (20%), as well as vitamins and minerals.
Monge Superpremium Adult Cat Dry Classic dry food for adult cats from 1 year to 7 years. The composition is not special: the proportion of fats and proteins is average, the additives are the same as in other products of the brand. The only thing you should pay attention to is the relatively high levels of calcium (1.8%) and phosphorus (1.2%), as well as their non-standard ratio: 1.5: 1 instead of 1.2: 1. It is advisable to regularly take tests to monitor the health of your pets. Sterilized and castrated animals are recommended to be transferred to another food from the line.
Monge Superpremium Cat Senior Dry The product differs from other foods in the line by the presence of preventive additives. Pineapple core extract contains bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory and immunostimulant. Glucosamine and chondroitin support joint health. The food contains more antioxidants that normalize metabolism and slow down the aging process.
Monge Superpremium Monoprotein Trout Kitten Dry Kitten food with trout. Well suited for animals with allergies to poultry protein. Some of the cereals are replaced with potatoes, but the composition includes corn.
Monge Superpremium Cat Sterilised Dry Food for sterilized cats. It has a reduced calorie content, but this effect is achieved by reducing the proportion of fats to the minimum permissible (10%), which can provoke a deficiency in some cats. Additionally, the manufacturer has reduced the concentration of minerals to prevent the development of urolithiasis. Disadvantages include the lack of preventive additives to normalize urine pH.
Monge Superpremium Monoprotein Sterilised Trout Dry The composition leaves mixed impressions. Theoretically, this food may be suitable for cats prone to allergies, but it contains wheat and corn, so it cannot be called hypoallergenic. The proportion of minerals is minimal: calcium is only 0.6%, and phosphorus is 0.5%. This can provoke the development of a deficiency. But fats are 12%, which is an acceptable indicator. When feeding this food, it is advisable to regularly take tests.
Monge Superpremium Hairball Dry The food contains more sources of fiber for hair removal. Additionally, the composition contains fish oil and dehydrated fish. This allows you to reduce the intensity of molting.
Monge Superpremium Salmon Adult Cat Dry The main source of protein in the food is salmon, but the composition also includes chicken. The diet is better suited for cats with dermatological problems, since it contains more easily digestible vitamins A and E.
Monge Natural Superpremium Monoprotein (Rabbit/Duck) Dry The line consists of 2 foods. The source of proteins is either rabbit or duck, depending on the type of diet. The foods contain wheat and corn, so they can cause allergies in case of food intolerance to cereals.
Monge Superpremium Cat Urinary Dry The food helps prevent urolithiasis due to the optimal pH level. Officially, the diet is not veterinary: it is not used during exacerbations, there is a more effective recipe.
Monge Superpremium Cat Indoor Dry Theoretically, the food should promote weight loss and maintaining normal weight, but it is practically no different from other diets. The manufacturer does not indicate caloric content, and antioxidants and L-carnitine are present in all Monge products.
Monge Superpremium Cat Sensitive Dry It is stated that the food is better suited for cats with sensitive digestion due to the presence of prebiotics in the composition, but they are present in all Monge diets. The product has less fiber, so it does not irritate the mucous membranes as much, but it can provoke a deterioration in the condition of constipation.
Monge VetSolution Dry and wet (canned) The line consists of special foods to alleviate the condition of cats with diseases of the skin, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and liver, as well as with diabetes, obesity and urolithiasis of the oxalate or struvite type. Additionally, the series includes canned food for rehabilitation after an illness or surgery.
Monge BWild Dry The line consists of 2 foods with an improved recipe. They contain more meat and preventive additives. The proportion of cereals is reduced.

Composition of Monge feeds

We won’t discuss the contents of veterinary diets because, in this instance, manufacturers must account for certain limitations and depart from industry norms in order to preserve the animal’s health. In order to acquire an entirely objective viewpoint, we picked out two dry and one wet meal from various series. It is crucial to assess both kinds of diets because the ingredient lists for various products will differ. Additionally, because pouches and canned food have different compositions, it frequently turns out that wet and dry products of the same brand belong to different classes.

The dry food Monge Superpremium Kitten contains the following ingredients:

  • chicken (dehydrated 26%, fresh 10%);
  • rice;
  • animal fat (chicken fat 99.6%, preserved with natural antioxidants);
  • corn;
  • hydrolyzed animal protein;
  • dried beet pulp;
  • corn gluten flour;
  • egg powder (with a high content of complete protein);
  • fish (dehydrated salmon);
  • fish oil (salmon oil);
  • brewer"s yeast (source of MOS and vitamin B12);
  • insoluble pea fiber;
  • taurine;
  • KOS (xylooligosaccharides 3 g / kg);
  • hydrolyzed yeast (MOS);
  • yucca schidigera;
  • rose hips.

The fact that the list contains many common names is immediately striking: fish, animal fat, chicken, etc. . The last wording most often indicates the use of whole carcasses without internal organs, but with skin, but it would be better if the manufacturer specified the type of ingredient. There are clarifications next to the other components, which is a little alarming. It is unknown what is added to the feed along with chicken fat. For owners of allergic animals, it is important to know the full list of components. In the case of fish, the situation is about the same. Dehydrated salmon is better than just "fish", so the manufacturer could not leave vague wording. This means that either the company uses additives that it wants to keep silent about, or the composition of the feed changes regularly. Most likely, this is due to the fact that the corporation is trying to improve the attractiveness of diets. Perhaps unspecified types of fish and fat are used as flavor additives. In this case, such a decision may be due to the secrecy of the recipe, but buyers have the right to know the composition of the product.

Classic feeds have very light granules because they don’t have as much meat in them as, say, Orijen or Acana.

The advantages of the feed include a high content of animal protein. In this indicator, Monge, of course, loses to holistic products, but still surpasses economy and premium products. Monge feeds can be used for systematic feeding: animals will receive all the necessary vitamins, minerals and amino acids from it. However, not everything is so simple. The product contains many cereals, incl. . corn is a source of fast carbohydrates and a potential allergen. The latter is even divided into 2 ingredients. Cereals contain practically no useful substances that would be well absorbed by cats, but they burden the animal"s gastrointestinal tract. The pancreas of predators has to synthesize enzymes that are necessary for digesting plant foods. This increases the risk of inflammation and the development of pancreatitis. This is far from the only problem associated with excess grains in cat food: there is a possibility of excess weight, liver dysfunction, kidney pathologies, etc. .

If you need to change the brand of food, you need to start from the condition and habits of your pets. For example, I have two cats. One has been eating premium diets from the breeder since childhood, at six months I transferred her to super-premium food. The other has been living with me since childhood, I immediately accustomed her to holistic foods. Since the gastrointestinal tract organs are finally formed and adapted in childhood, the second cat now accepts all high-protein meat foods well, but the first one often has side effects. Until now, we have to feed them separately. At one time I tried to transfer both of them to Monge rations from the BWild series: they suited me in terms of price and quality, as well as the average meat content. As a result, the cat that eats holistic rations began to lose its coat, and shedding increased. Everything is fine with the other one. I had to feed the pets separately again. However, if there are special needs, finding veterinary food better than Monge will be problematic. Its only competitor may be the Farmina brand.

The following elements are present in Monge BWild Hare’s dry food composition:

  • rabbit meat (fresh 15%, dehydrated 35%);
  • yellow peas;
  • cassava starch;
  • animal fat (chicken fat content 99.5%, preserved with natural antioxidants);
  • rice;
  • oats;
  • dried beet pulp;
  • hydrolyzed animal protein;
  • brewer"s yeast (source of MOS and vitamin B12);
  • egg powder (1% with a high content of complete protein);
  • flaxseed (1%);
  • dehydrated carrots (1%);
  • dehydrated tomatoes (1%);
  • insoluble pea fiber;
  • taurine;
  • XOS (xylo-oligosaccharides 3 g/kg);
  • yucca schidigera;
  • pineapple stem;
  • dehydrated blueberries;
  • dehydrated cranberries;
  • dehydrated raspberries.

This food has a much better composition than the representatives of the classic lines, but the price is almost 2 times higher. The manufacturer uses more meat and less plant components. The latter are mainly represented by legumes and cereals, which contain slow carbohydrates. Rice rarely causes allergies. The same can be said about hare meat. The food contains preventive additives. Yucca schidigera reduces the smell of feces. Pea fiber, beet pulp and pineapple stem contain fiber and help normalize bowel function. Berries help control the acidity of urine and prevent the development of urolithiasis. The food contains relatively little calcium and phosphorus (1% and 0.8%, respectively), which reduces the likelihood of kidney stones, but can lead to a deficiency.

The BWild food line differs greatly from the traditional ones in terms of both the packaging design and granule composition.

This food can be an alternative to holistic foods if your cat has difficulty digesting high-protein products. I later transferred my pet, who was accustomed to premium food as a child, to this diet. Of course, this is far from the best food: it contains hydrolyzed protein and taurine, which indicates an insufficient amount of meat. However, it is the best among those that are suitable for my cat. It contains plant ingredients, but they are relatively safe. This is better than food with wheat or corn. In this price category, you can find much more balanced options, but with sensitive digestion, the BWild series can be a real salvation.

Because there is more meat in the BWild series of feeds than in the classic ones, the granules are darker.

The following components make up the wet food Monge Cat Natural with beef, chicken, and tuna:

  • tuna (45%);
  • chicken (26%);
  • beef (5%);
  • rice (1%);
  • fructooligosaccharides (FOS).

Regarding moist food, there aren’t any noteworthy disadvantages. Although we might prefer more beef and less chicken, the manufacturer does offer other canned food varieties, such as ones without additives. Here, rice serves as a filler and aids in restoring normal digestion. Prebiotics are even included in the composition to aid in the establishment of microflora. But since this is merely an extra feed and doesn’t have all the nutrients needed, it should be mixed with granules.

Meat fibers and individual pieces make up wet food.

Cost and availability of Monge feeds

The variety has a significant impact on how much Monge feeds cost. A can of monoprotein canned food (80 g) costs 105 rubles, while an 80 g can of wet food from the Natural series costs 140 rubles. One kilogram of food from the traditional line costs between 400 and 500 rubles. The price goes up to 700 rubles per kg if the BWild series is being discussed. It is preferable to order Monge food online because it is not available in every pet store.
