Release form and composition

The well-known Russian pharmaceutical veterinary company "Apicenna" (formerly known as "Api-San" until 2018) is the creator of Hepatovet for dogs. This supplement is a biologically active hepatoprotector, meaning it helps to keep the liver healthy.

Hepatovet is not included in the category of pharmaceuticals (LS). As a result, it is available for purchase at any pet shop or veterinary pharmacy without a prescription. However, make sure to speak with a veterinarian before using.

There are two types of the medication available: standard hepatovet and upgraded hepatovet asset (Hepatovet Active). They are composed similarly, save for two distinct moments.

Active substance The usual form Assets
Essential phospholipids 60 mg/1 ml Not indicated in the instructions for use.
Methionine 100 mg/1 ml 100 mg/1 ml
L-Ornitin 50 mg/1 ml 50 mg/1 ml
Squeezing with milk thistle 15 mg/1 ml 30 mg/1 ml
Immortal extract 15 mg/1 ml 15 mg/1 ml

Auxiliary components are another way that producing forms are identified. The main distinction is that "Beecon" is a fragrance found in Hepatovet Active.

Hepatoprotectors at a low cost from "Apicenna" For example, a bottle of regular hepatovite costs approximately 375 r. and a bottle of asset costs 600 r. for 100 ml and 420 r. for 50 ml.

Indications for use

For the treatment and prevention of liver diseases of all etiologies, gepatovet is widely used. It is advised that:

  • for liver pathologies – acute or chronic;
  • for organ damage by toxins;
  • after infectious diseases;
  • to reduce the negative impact of drugs with hepatotoxic properties: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, antiparasitic drugs, etc.;
  • to eliminate the consequences of improper feeding or poisoning;
  • as an additional remedy for allergies;
  • for gastrointestinal tract disorders.

Hepatovet’s general indication is to preserve and enhance the liver and bladder’s ability to function.

How it works

An all-around medication. Its complex of biologically active substances enhances the liver’s resistance to toxins and improves the liver’s overall health.

Every element in the composition has a favorable effect of its own:

  1. Phospholipids improve the functioning of liver enzymes, break down fats, speed up metabolism, lower cholesterol, remove toxins.
  2. The amino acid methionine accelerates the processing of animal fats and prevents their excessive accumulation. It also stimulates the production of lecithin and promotes the removal of toxins, incl. . heavy metal salts.
  3. Another amino acid, L-ornithine, neutralizes the toxic effects of ammonia, balances the acid-base balance, regulates the production of urea and insulin. Plus it accelerates the regeneration of liver cells.
  4. Plant components, extracts of immortelle and milk thistle, gently remove toxins, have choleretic effects. Also relieve pain and spasm, increase reparative properties.

Its functioning improves when the primary liver cells, or hepatocytes, are replaced. Additionally, symptoms such as nausea, lethargy, allergic reactions, dull coat, and other outward signs of organ diseases are eliminated.

Instructions for use and dosage

The medication is simple to administer; it can be taken orally with food or water using the syringe-dispenser that is included with the bottle. The bubble is well shaken before usage; the medication is "relaxed" while being stored.

The medication has a distinct, sharp taste and smell. Dogs frequently start leaking copious amounts of saliva when they swallow. As a result, it is preferable to use the syringe-doster to dial the solution before giving the pet a treat.

Administer hepatovet two to three times daily for three weeks. In the event that the treatment was stopped, it is started again using the same plan. The animal’s weight determines the dosage, which is shown in the table below.

Following medication administration, the bottle is cleaned and clogged in a cool, dark area free of goods and other medications. For up to three weeks, store an unpacked suspension.

Contraindications and side effects

The medication is secure. Dogs of any age or condition, as well as those with weaker illnesses and expectant mothers, can take it. It doesn’t have any adverse effects at these dosages. Allergy reactions are rare and are treated with symptomatic medication (antihistamines) and withdrawal of the intake.

But remember that the drug cannot be given to animals that have:

  • renal failure;
  • hepatic encephalopathy – a severe complication of liver failure with toxic damage to the central nervous system;
  • epilepsy.

Owner reviews

Tinka: "My toy terrier did not complain about liver issues for three years." But issues surfaced a year into the therapeutic diet. They recovered with a course of injections and hepatoprotectors, but there are relapses occasionally. Then Hepatovet saves us: it functions flawlessly and eliminates the need for additional medication.

Dmitry: "The dog’s nose was speckled with white. Furthermore, for two to three months, the pet had diarrhea, occasionally refused food, and had a bad breath odor coming from its mouth. After a blood test, the bilirubin level was higher! And an enlarged liver was seen on the ultrasound. We were prescribed Hepatovet, which I administered using a syringe without a needle because the included dispenser is inconvenient. Bilirubin dropped after two weeks, but it was still higher than normal. We now feed every three months via a bottle. The dog is feeling better; he is eating voluntarily, and the light inclusions on his muzzle are no longer there.

Maria: "At Bagirki stopped playing, lost her appetite, and slept all the time." We visited the veterinarian, who diagnosed severe liver issues. The doctor only recommended Gepatovet. Because of the drug’s low cost, I had my doubts. However, after a month, the dog started eating willingly and acting more normally, and the indicators leveled off. The medication is effective, but I would not administer it without a doctor’s prescription and necessary testing.

Answers to frequently asked questions

Can Gepatovet be used in pregnant and lactating dogs?

Yes, pregnant bitches can safely use the medication. But first, you need to consult a veterinarian.

Do I need to take a break between eating and giving the drug?

When taking it, there’s no need to adhere to a diet. Food pairs well with the solution. It can be combined with some food or added to beverages.

It is allowed to combine Gepatovet with other drugs?

When taken with other medications, it has no negative effects on the animal’s health or reduces the medication’s potency. It can therefore be mixed with any medication without risk.

Brown flakes resembling pieces of liver float in the bottle. The medicine has not spoiled?

The solution "stratifies" in storage. As a result, inclusions may occur and a dark sediment appears at the bottle’s bottom. They have no effect on the suspension’s characteristics. Before giving the animal the medication, you only need to give the bottle a good shake.

For dogs with liver problems, hepatovet can be a beneficial supplement that supports their general health and wellbeing. It functions by supporting liver function and assisting in the treatment of liver disease symptoms.

It’s crucial to adhere to the suggested dosage and see your veterinarian before beginning any new supplement because they can offer advice specific to your dog’s requirements.

Hepatovet can enhance your dog’s quality of life when added to their regular care regimen, particularly when paired with a healthy diet and other veterinarian-recommended treatments.
