It has become a real sensation in the world of aquariums and terrariums. Its main magic is that, once under water, it not only grows but also begins to produce oxygen, which is retained in the form of sparkling pearls on the tips of its delicate branches.

The result is a living, breathing garland that slowly sways with the slightest movement of the water. It's a mesmerizing sight, transforming an ordinary home pond into a miniature magical forest full of movement and life. Let's find out how to bring this green wizard into your home.

This bryophyte migrated to aquariums straight from the tropics of Southeast Asia. There, it settled in any damp corners of the jungle due to its unpretentiousness and ability to grow on any substrate.

Growing and care

This type of moss is considered one of the most beginner-friendly for aquarium owners. It grows on almost anything, does not require carbon dioxide supply or frequent trimming.

However, in order for Bubl to have a rich and bright color, a healthy appearance, and be covered with coveted bubbles, the following parameters must be taken into account:

  • lighting should be bright (at least 0.4 W/l).
  • all conditions regarding water temperature, hardness, and acidity must be observed.
  • water filtration and aeration are mandatory.
  • fertilizer and CO2 supplementation.

Moss can be placed on almost any surface (different types of soil, decorative elements, stones, driftwood). Aquariums of various sizes and paludariums are suitable for keeping it.

To prevent the death or decay of Bubl moss, several important rules must be followed.

  • Do not allow suspended particles to appear in the water. Otherwise, algae will grow on the leaves and the moss itself will die.
  • Clean the leaves periodically. It is enough to siphon them.
  • Remove algae from the area around the Bubl and from the walls of the aquarium closest to it.
  • Do not place animals (fish, mollusks) that feed on bryophytes in the moss habitat.
  • Trimming must be done very carefully so as not to damage the plant. It is better to thin it out.

Water parameters for ideal conditions

Three water parameters must be maintained to ensure comfortable living conditions for Bubl moss:

  • neutral acidity – from 5.5 to 7.5 pH.
  • warm temperature – between 18°C and 28°C.
  • medium hardness – between 4 and 10 dH.

It is also important to regularly clean the water of bacteria and microorganisms (filtration) and saturate it with oxygen (aeration). The well-being and appearance of the moss directly depends on this. The water in the aquarium should be renewed every 7-10 days, completely changing approximately 25% of the volume.

Lighting requirements

Moss Bubble prefers bright and intense (0.4 to 0.6 W/l) lighting, which should last about 10 hours a day. This promotes intensive growth and the appearance of branches.

Bubbles of air, which not only look nice, but also have a positive effect on the microflora in the aquarium.

In case of lack of light, the plant will most likely not die, but its growth will slow down significantly and it will become faded.

Requirements for soil, nutrient substrate

Moss sp. Bubble is completely undemanding in terms of planting soil and grows on anything: aquarium walls, stones, decorative elements, driftwood. Moss can be planted in any soil.

There is no need for a nutrient substrate, but you can use it to accelerate growth if you wish. To do this, place a 1 cm layer of substrate on the bottom of the aquarium, cover it with soil, and then plant moss.

Bubble moss is an unusual plant that looks like a living garland of small green bubbles. It does not bloom and does not have ordinary leaves, but its stems are strung together like transparent balls filled with moisture. It grows in damp, shady places — in swamps, near streams, attaching itself to snags or stones. It looks alien, but it is completely harmless and can even be used in interior design as an element of living decor. It is one of the most amazing manifestations of nature, where simplicity is combined with a bizarre form.

Fertilizer requirements

Fertilizers are not a prerequisite for growing Bubbles moss.

However, the use of fertilizers will only have a positive effect on the plant:

  • the moss will grow faster;
  • oxygen bubbles will appear on the branches;
  • the color will become richer and greener;
  • the microflora of the aquarium will improve.

Mineral fertilizers, preferably liquid ones, should be used to feed bryophytes. Dry fertilizers (powders, granules, tablets) may not dissolve well in water, get on the moss, and damage it. It is best to fertilize when changing the water weekly.

In addition to mineral fertilizers, carbon dioxide is also used to feed the moss, which is necessary for photosynthesis.

The method of CO2 saturation can be anything from a fermenter to a special pressure cylinder system.

When calculating the concentration of carbon dioxide required for Bubbles, the following parameters must be taken into account:

  • aquarium volume;
  • amount of moss;
  • water parameters.

Propagation and planting

Moss reproduces through spores, which actively form on it a couple of months after the start of growth and spread throughout the aquarium. In addition, you can simply take an adult formed bush and divide it, transferring the resulting “daughters” to new places.

Moss is planted as follows:

  • If the plant is purchased, it must be removed from the container and cleaned of substrate.
  • The existing adult plant should be carefully divided into several small “daughters.”
  • Prepare a nutritious substrate for planting.
  • Use tweezers to plant the “daughters” in the soil placed above the substrate, about 4-5 cm apart.
  • Add mineral fertilizer to the water.

So simple, yet so mesmerizing, Bubl moss is a true natural wonder. It clearly shows how even the tiniest plant can surprise us with its beauty and unique survival mechanisms.

This “living garland” does not require any special care. A little coolness, moisture, and diffused light — and a piece of a fairy-tale forest settles on your windowsill. It reminds us how important it is to sometimes slow down and look at the details hidden in the familiar world.

Growing bubble moss is not just a hobby. It is an opportunity to witness a real natural spectacle and bring a piece of wild, untouched beauty into your home.
